Welcome to TDEC's Environmental Review Tool (ERT), which is maintained by the TDEC-Division of Natural Areas (TDEC-DNA). The ERT allows users to generate environmental reviews from user-submitted project boundaries and view conservation-oriented GIS layers in an online map viewer.
You can access the map viewer without creating an account, but must create an account AND attend a virtual training event hosted by TDEC-DNA to submit projects for review. The environmental review functionality of the ERT is intended for environmental consultants, grant administrators, and project managers who are responsible for considering rare, threatened, and endangered plant species as a part of their work. A data services fee of $275.00 is charged for each project review requested by a user.
Once you have an account that has been approved by an ERT administrator, you can define an area of interest by drawing or uploading project boundaries within the Explore map, provide a project description, and submit the project for an environmental review.
CLICK HERE TO SEE AVAILABLE TRAINING DATES (typically offered weekly with additional dates added at the beginning of each month).
A report based on your submission will be generated and visible to you in the My Projects tab. You will be notified via email when your report is ready - which should be within 5-10 minutes of submitting your request. If you encounter any errors or have any questions, you should consult the Help tab to see if resources have already been provided addressing your issue. If your question is not resolved by the Help section, you are welcome to contact TDEC-DNA staff for assistance at environmental.review@tn.gov.
More information regarding the ERT, virtual training events, and consultation with TDEC-DNA can found on the DNA Environmental Review Web Page.
